Photo editing tutorial #1

Welcome to my new section of this blog. Here, i will show you which apps i used and how i used them to manipulate a certain picture. In this case, its a quick shot i took when i didnt have much time. After looking at it later on, i felt like i could have taken a better picture, which kind of annoys me. As you can see, a badly taken picture cant be "apped" that much better. Anyway, here is what i did:

1. This is the original picture i took.

2. Then, i used Snapseed to enhance it a bit. Most of the time i always increase these things in a picture: Saturation & Contrast. Since somehow the iPhone doesnt always capture the colors of nature in their full beauty, i feel the need to spice it a bit up.

3. After looking at it now, i knew what i did wrong while shooting the photo. I failed at the exposure. As you can see in the first two pictures, the hair of the girl gets mixed up with the hill behind her. So again, i used Snapseed and the function "selective adjust" to make the hill brighter. Doesnt give a wow-effect, but is certainly making a difference here.

4. After that, i used Camera+ with its amazing function "Clarity" to brighten the picture up and to give it a interesting look. Then i added the filter "Redscale" to spice it up with a romantic mood.

5. Now it was time to use "Perfect image". I used the function "splash" to cut out the couple from the blurry background.

6. In the end i used "Filter Mania" with the "BBTS". Unfortunately, Filter Mania always forces me to cut the picture. And thats it!

While i really have to admit that this isnt the best picture i have created and i am not fully satisified with the result, i have to say that i did this on the way to the bus within not even 10 minutes. There will be more how-i-did-this-posts coming, and i hope there will be something that inspires you!

  1. Hi...
    14. This tutorial was amazingly detailed. I learned more by creating the website via your tutorial than I did in my Graphic Design and Photoshop classes put together. Thank you so much! A very annoying cloud has been lifted off of the intimidating monster that is Photoshop. Thanks again!
