Olloclip - Review

After some time of research and some angry calls with TNT i finally own an "Olloclip" now! I have always been keen on some cool lenses for the iPhone, and most people recommended me this 3-in-1 set. So i didnt waste alot of time and went hiking to get some example-photos for you.

So what is the Olloclip?
The Olloclip is a gadget that comes with 3 different lenses for your iPhone 4/4S (sorry iPad users). The whole package contains a Fisheye, Wide-Angle & Macro lenses, lens caps for both ends and a microfiber lens cleaning cloth that is also a bag that you can put the olloclip in to keep it safe.

How does it work?
Now thats really simple. All you have to do is pick the lens you want to use right now and slide it on the corner of your iPhone. Dont worry it wont fall off that easily, and changing lenses is done within seconds. You wont be able to use the flash-mode but that didnt really bother me yet.

Is it compatible with other apps/video mode?
Yes. You can use video mode and it will work with all of your favorite apps, since it does not affect the software of your iPhone in any way.

What are the 3 lenses for?
  1. The Macro lens: Applies roughly a 10X multiplier and allows you to focus the iPhone within 12-15mm of the subject. The Macro lens is cleverly concealed within the olloclip and can be accessed by unscrewing the Wide-Angle lens that is normally attached to it.
  2. The Fisheye lens: Captures approximately a 180 Degree field-of-view.
  3. The Wide-Angle lens: Is great for when you need that extra field of view, approximately double that of the normal iPhone.

My thoughts on Olloclip:
A great gadget that every iPhoneographer should have in this bag. Since its so small, it will fit perfectly in your pocket. I absolutely love the results, especially when you use the macro lens. I was a little bit disappointed by the wide-angle lens, because if you look closely, you can see a barrel-distortion effect where the grass is at the left an the right of the image. This seems to occur quite often, but will only be recognized where there should be a clear line. The fisheye is also cool, and you shouldnt be afraid to get close to people/objects when using it. And the macro is, as i have already said, amazing.
For 80€ this gadget is more than worth grabbing!

  1. Thanks for your review. My feelings are the same, it's good but there are a few things tht can be improved. The main improvement would be the price for me.
